Menudo año ha sido el 2011. Ha sido un año intenso tanto en lo profesional como en lo personal, lleno de cosas muy buenas y también de algunas no tanto. En definitiva ha sido un año para recordar.

Ahora que termina, vengo a hablaros del proyecto que me ha estado persiguiendo durante todo este año, Dollhouse.

En marzo hará un año que creí haberlo terminado. Pero la verdad era que tendrían que pasar varios meses, un montón de revisiones, cortes, cambios de formato, reescrituras y añadidos aquí y allí hasta que finalmente estuviera contenta y convencida con el resultado.

He dado tantas vueltas, he desechado tanto material y creado nuevo, que es casi como si hubiera hecho una película y tuviera un montón de escenas eliminadas xD

Todo esto ha servido para mejorar la obra y también para aprender un montón, como digo, el 2011 ha sido intenso en todos los sentidos.

Ahora que finalmente doy el proyecto por terminado quiero compartir algo más de información e imágenes!

También contaros que ha sufrido un cambio de título, puesto que ha pasado a llamarse PORCELAIN. Es un nombre que me encanta y creo que encaja muy bien con la obra.

Porcelain (blanco y negro, 120 páginas), narra la historia de Beryl, una niña que vive con su tía y su gato en medio del desierto, y que se ve atrapada en la Dollhouse, una casa cambiante y extraña que caza a niños para convertirlos en muñecos.

Porcelain es una metáfora de como la mente puede ser una prisión y de como creamos nuestras propias limitaciones dentro de nuestras cabezas.
De que no tenemos que tener miedo a vivir ni a cumplir nuestros sueños y de que solo se necesitan objetivos y pasión/dedicación.

En Porcelainhe estado trabajando todo este año pero de forma intermitente. Entonces, qué hehecho el resto del tiempo?

Pues empezarmi nuevo comic, HEARTBEAT.

ParaHeartbeat decidí trabajar de una forma nueva para mi hasta el momento. Una vezterminado y cerrado a cal y canto el guión para evitar sorpresas posteriores,hice el story board completo. Nunca antes había hecho story de más de 20páginas de golpe, sobretodo porque tiendo a hacerlos muy abocetados y luego niyo misma sé lo que quería decir en cada sitio. Pero esta vez lo hice de formaun tanto más clara y finalicé el total de páginas. El resultado fue muysatisfacotrio.

Estoy muyemocionada con este proyecto, puesto que va a ser mi primera obra a color. Osenseñaré alguna cosilla próximamente~ ^^

What a year it has been 2011. It’s been an intense year both in the professional and personal aspects, full of really good things and others not so much. All in all, a year to remember.

Now that it comes to an end, I come to talk about the project that has been chasing me all year, Dollhouse.

In march will be a year since I first thought I had finished it. But the truth is that there had to pass many months, with lots of revisions, cuts, format changes, rewritings and additions here and there until I was finally happy and convinced with the result.

I’ve been turning around and around, rejected so much material and created new, it’s almost like I did a movie and I had lots of deleted scenes xD

All this has been useful to improve the work and also to learn a lot, as I say, 2011 has been intense in all ways.

Now that the project is finally over I want to share some more info and images!

Also to tell you that it has suffered a change of title, as now is called PORCELAIN. It is a name I love and I think it fits so well with the story.

Porcelain (black and white, 120 pages), tells the story of Beryl, a girl who lives with her aunt and her cat in the middle of the desert, and gets trapped in the Dollhouse, a changing and mysterious house that hunts children to turn them into dolls.

Porcelain is a metaphor of how the mind can be a prison and how we create our own limitations inside our heads.
That we don’t have to be afraid of living and fulfilling our dreams and that we only need objectives and passion/commitment.

During this year I’ve been workingin Porcelain but only sporadically. What, then, have I been doing the rest ofthe time?

Well, I’ve started my new comic,HEARTBEAT.

For Heartbeat I started a differentway of working from the usual. Once the script was finished and revised toavoid unpleasant surprises, I did the whole story board. I had never worked onmore than 20 consecutive pages of story before, mainly because I tend to dothem very sketchy and I can’t read them well myself after a while. But thistime I did them a bit clearer and finished the whole lot of pages. The result was verysatisfying.

I’m very excited with this project,because it will be my first work in colour. Some preview coming soon~ ^^

Fanart of ROSA, Jesús Orellana's animated short film! ♥

ROSA is now in competition for the Goya Awards (Spanish Academy Awards) in the category of Best Animated Short Film.

There will be a Live-Action feature of ROSA from 20th Century Fox, produced by Simon Kinberg and directed by Jesús Orellana. It'll be based on an original story by Jesús Orellana that will expand the world of the short to a whole new level! :D

Mnemotecnia
Mnemotechnics

Según ladefinición de la Wikipedia, la mnemotecnia es el procedimiento de asociaciónmental de ideas, esquemas, ejercicios sistemáticos, repeticiones, etc. parafacilitar el recuerdo de algo. Hay diferentes técnicas para aumentar laretención, que van desde formar palabras con las iniciales de cada palabra quese desea memorizar a otras más sofisticadas, como la elaboración de casillerosmentales y conversiones numéricas.

En el casode las conversiones numéricas, se asocian letras a números para recordarnúmeros concretos a través de palabras.

EnEros/Psique decidí aplicarlo al revés, usando los números como código paradescifrar palabras.

Regarding the Wikipedia’sdefinition, a mnemonic, or mnemonic device, is any learning technique that aidsmemory. To improve long term memory, mnemonic systems are used to makememorization easier. Commonly encountered mnemonics are often verbal, such as avery short poem or a special word used to help a person remember something,particularly lists, but a mnemonic may instead be visual, kinesthetic orauditory.

In the case of numeric conversions,a letter is associated with a number so you can remember specific numbersthrough words.

In the case of Eros/Psyche I decidedto apply this the other way around, using numbers as a code to decipher words.

There are a lot of different codevariations, this is the one I used as a base:

No usé elmismo patrón cada vez con las letras sobrantes, sino según veía qué números serepetían menos en cada caso. Por lo tanto el código es indescifrable.

I didn’t use the same pattern everytime for the spare letters, using different numbers depending on the ones thatwere much used in each case. So the code is undecipherable.

Los textosmanuscritos están en francés para la edición francesa y en español para laespañola, pero todos los números están basados siempre en textos en español.Así pues, solo en la versión española tiene sentido buscar un paralelismo y unatraducción entre números y texto (a pesar de que como ya he mencionado esimposible de descifrar del todo).

Canova's Eros & Psyche

Paraacompañar la historia de Eros y Psique durante el comic, decidí representarleshomenajeando a la preciosa escultura neoclásica de Antonio Canova.

To accompany the story of Eros andPsyche during the comic, I decided to represent them making a tribute to thelovely neoclassical sculpture by Antonio Canova.

Apollo & Daphne

Justo antesde que Silje cuente la historia de Eros y Psique, Sara menciona que su historiafavorita es la de Apolo y Dafne.

Aunque laescultura que Sara tiene delante no se parece a ella, lo que tenía en la cabezaen ese momento era la espectacular escultura barroca de Gian Lorenzo Bernini,representando el momento en que Dafne se convierte en árbol para escapar deApolo.

Just before Silje tells the story ofEros and Psyche, Sara mentions that her favourite story is the one of Apollo& Daphne. Even though the statue in front of Sara is not similar to it,what I had in my mind in that moment was the amazing baroque sculpture by GianLorenzo Bernini, which represents the moment of Daphne becoming a tree toescape Apollo.

I have so many things to attend tothese days, I don’t find the time or concentration to write the promised entryabout Eros/Psyche.

I know I promised an Eros/Psyche Curiosities post, I haven't forgotten :)
But I have to find the time to do it, which I don't have right now, so I thought I'll post something else ^^

This is a random panel of a 3 pages short story called Bee Junkie.
I started it during the summer just for fun, and I work on it from time to time.
As you will surely realise, it's inspired by Tatsuyuki Tanaka's work, which I love <3
It will be in colour, but I just felt like showing the ink (madness xD).

Hay un pequeño error de rotulación en la edición española de Eros/Psique.Concretamente en la primera viñeta de la página 51, donde los textos están intercambiados de globo.Os dejo con la versión corregida.

Es un error sin importancia pero nunca está de más aclararlo :)Algunas personas se han interesado por detalles curiosos sobre Eros/Psique, como los números que aparecen en los libros de texto de las chicas y otras peculiaridades, así que próximamente haré una entrada contando algunas curiosidades sobre la historia.

There’s a little mistake on the lettering in the spanish edition of Eros/Psyche. It’s on the first panel of page 51, where the text are swapped of their bubbles.You can see the correct version on the image above.

It’s a little mistake with not much importance, but it is ok to mention it :)
Some people have interested about curious details about Eros/Psyche, such as the numbers on the girls’ text books and other peculiarities, so I’m going to make an entry soon telling some curiosities about the story.

«Megustaría acercarme a la sutileza y la sensibilidad de las películas de SofiaCoppola»

A esta autoracuasi novel la han comparado con Sofia Coppola y J. K. Rowling por su primeraobra como dibujante y guionista: Eros/Psique. El cómic, que en España se hapublicado en Norma Editorial coincidiendo con el Salón del Manga, es lahistoria de amor de dos chicas (Sara y Silje) y su paso por un internado conunas pautas muy estrictas que más vale no romper. María Llovet (Barcelona,1982) ha cargado en esta obra con todo el peso creativo, después de habercolaborado con otros autores encargándose del dibujo. «Este cómic surgió dela necesidadde volcarme en dibujar mis propios guiones. A pesar de que la experiencia detrabajar con otros guionistas fue muy grata, lo que de verdad me ha interesadosiempre es contar mis propias historias; definir mi estilo y encontrar lamanera de expresarme en todos los sentidos».

En este tomo,su lenguaje tiene un tono marcado a fuego en blancos y negros, y se aleja desus trabajos anteriores: «Elegí un estilo un tanto más limpio que en Linked, miprimer trabajo, que era en blanco y negro con tramas. Las eliminé porque queríaconcentrarme exclusivamente en el juego que pueden dar el blanco y el negropuros. También es más sobrio en cuanto a decorados ya los diseños de personajes, más minimalista, puesto que la historia lorequería».

Curiosamente, Eros/Psique debutóprimero al otro lado de los Pirineos, en Francia, donde ha recibido buenascríticas y se ha ganado a pulso el mérito de «artista a seguir» en los añosvenideros con las comparaciones ya citadas. «Sofia Coppola es una de misdirectoras favoritas, así que es un honor que me comparen con ella. La sutilezay sensibilidad que desprende en sus películas es algo a lo que de verdad megustaría acercarme. Lo mismo digo de Harry Potter, soy fan», asegura. Hay otrascomparaciones que escapan a las intenciones de la autora, «por ejemplo, Manara,lo cual me ha sorprendido y halagado enormemente. Pues nada,ya ha terminado el Salón del Manga de Barcelona!

Muchísimasgracias a toda la gente que se pasó por las sesiones de firmas de Eros/Psique,y a toda la gente que lo compró en general!

Espero queos guste! ^^

Han sidounos días geniales, todo el mundo ha sido encantador! En resumen, un verdaderoplacer!

Y ahora averlo en las librerías!!

Esta no erala primera vez que se publica un comic mío; Eros/Psique salió primero enFrancia, y anteriormente también lo había hecho el tomo 1 de Linked.

Pero sí esla primera vez que se publica algo mío en mi propio país, la primera vez quepuedo ir a una librería de mi ciudad y encontrarlo allí.

¡¿Cuanemocionante es eso?! :D

Es difícilde describir con palabras! <3

Os dejo una reseña de Eros/Psique por parte de Guía del Cómic, creo que describe muy bien la esencia de la historia!

Hola! Os traigo algo de info extra sobre EROS/PSIQUE ysus personajes + diseños :)

Actualizaré de nuevo en los próximos díaspara poner los horarios de firmas en el Salón del Manga de Barcelona! ^^

EROS/PSIQUEnarra la historia de SARA, una chica que rememora el año que pasó en elpeculiar internado femenino LA ROSA, y como la experiencia cambió su vida parasiempre.

SARA
Sara es una chica muy intensa, que llegaa La Rosa siendo ingenua e inocente. Su espíritu está en total comunión con elemplazamiento bucólico de La Rosa, pero poco a poco su corazón se acercará a SILJE,situándola por encima de todo lo demás.

SILJE
La Alumna Clavede La Rosa.
Cada año el centro elige a una Alumna Clave, la única chicaque permanecerá en la escuela durante el curso siguiente, y guiará al resto dealumnas en su día a día en La Rosa.

Silje es una chica tranquila y madura,muy severa a la hora de dirigir al resto de estudiantes a través de sus vidasen el centro y tiende a ser muy críptica, incluso con Sara. A pesar de estafaceta pública, es en realidad una chica muy sensible, llena de dudas einseguridades como cualquier otra chica. Su amor por Sara la asusta y pone sutarea como Alumna Clave en entredicho.

TAMLYN
La vecina de habitación de Sara. Esvital, entusiasta e incluso irreflexiva.
Al enamorarse de un Chico que encuentraen los bosques cruzará la línea de lo prohibido y desencadenará su propiadesdicha.

VANNA
Vanna es una chica extraña querevoluciona la tranquila vida en La Rosa, a pesar de solo pasar allí dossemanas. Es portadora de malos presagios para Sara.

LA ROSA
La Rosa es un sitio muy peculiar entodos los sentidos, y resulta ser uno de los personajes principales de lahistoria. No conoceremos muchos de las normas específicas de funcionamiento delcentro, puesto que vemos la historia desde el punto de vista de Sara, queconoce bien su dinámica, y focaliza en los recuerdos de sus vivencias y sussentimientos, en vez de describir cómo se hacen las cosas en la escuela.
Lo que le gusta, lo que le preocupa, sudía a día y su alegría o pesar son revelados en la historia con la ayuda de losterrenos de La Rosa, sus bosques y prados, y el Jardín Secreto que comparte conSilje.

SARA

Sara is a veryintense girl, who arrives to The Rose being innocent and naïve. Her spiritloves The Rose and it’s bucolic setting, but bit by bit her heart will comenear SILJE, placing her over everything else.

SILJE

The Key Student ofThe Rose.

Every year theschool elects it’s Key Student, the only girl that will remain at the centrefor the next year, and will guide the rest of the students into their everydayat The Rose.

Silje is a calmand mature girl, very severe in her duty of conducting the rest of the girls intheir lives at The Rose. She’s very strict with the rules and tends to be verycryptic, even with Sara. Despite this public face, she’s a very sensitive girl,full of doubts and insecurity, just as every other girl. Her love for Sarafrightens her the most, and puts her duty as the Key Student in a complicatedsituation.

TAMLYN

Sara’s roomneighbour. She’s vital and enthusiastic, and a little bit thoughtless. When fallingin love with a Boy she finds in the woods, she’ll cross the line into the prohibited,and unleash her own misfortune.

VANNA

Vanna is a strangegirl that revolutionizes the life at The Rose even though she only spends theretwo weeks. She brings bad omens to Sara.

THE ROSE

The Rose is a veryspecial place in all senses, and turns to be one of the main characters of thestory. We don’t know much of the specifics of the centre’s running because wesee it through the eyes of Sara, who already knows it’s dynamics, and focuseson what she lives and how she feels, instead of describing how and why thingsare done at the school.

What she likes,what she worries about, her daily life and her joy and sorrow are revealed inthe story with the help of the grounds of The Rose, it’s woods and fields, andthe secret garden that shares with Silje.

Hace unos días recibí la edición de Eros/Pisque en castellano y estoy encantada con ella! ♥

He hecho algunas fotos junto con la edición francesa para compararlas, las dos son preciosas, no sabría decir cual me gusta más! xD

La edición francesa (por Emmanuel Proust Editions) está encuadernada en tapa dura, tinta plateada y peliculado mate/brillante.

La edición española (por Norma Editorial) es algo más pequeña (como un tomo kanzenban), encuadernada en tapa blanda con solapas y mantiene la tinta plateada y el peliculado igual que la francesa.

Os dejo con las fotos, espero que os gusten tanto como a mi! ^^ ♥

Some days ago I received the spanish edition of Eros/Psyche and I’m absolutely delighted with it! ♥

I’ve taken some pictures with the french edition to compare them, they are both so pretty, I can’t say which one I like better! xD

The french edition (by Emmanuel Proust Editions) is published in hardcover, with silver ink and with shining/mate coating.

The spanish edition (by Norma Editorial) is a bit smaller (like a kanzenban tome), published in paperback with flaps and with the same coating and silver ink as the french one.

Hola a todos! Qué tal?

Después de un verano atareado, extraño y demasiado caluroso, llega Septiembre por fin, y vengo a compartir con vosotros esta fantástica noticia:

EROS/PSIQUE será publicado en España de la mano de Norma Editorial!
Saldrá a la venta durante el próximo Saló del Manga de Barcelona (del 29 de Oct al 1 de Nov de 2011).

Por supuesto estaré allí para firmar ejemplares! Pondré más información en cuanto yo misma la tenga ^^

La edición española de Eros/Psique tendrá un formato algo más reducido que el original francés, en tapa blanda con solapas. Conservará la tinta plateada y peliculado, y además tendrá una contraportada preciosa (diseñada por el equipo de Norma) que ya estoy deseando ver en persona.

Además de esta noticia, tengo otras novedades internacionales que todavía tardaré un poquito en poder compartir, os mantendré informados! ;)

Hi everyone! How are you?

After a busy, weird and way too hot summer, September is coming and I bring you this fantastic news:

EROS/PSYCHE is going to be published in Spain by Norma Editorial!
It will be out for sale during the upcoming Saló del Manga de Barcelona (Oct 29the to Nov 1st, 2011).

Of course I’ll be there to sign copies! I’ll update with more info as soon as I get it ^^

Spanish edition of Eros/Psyche will be paperback with flaps, and a little smaller than the original french one.
It will have the same silver ink and coated, and a wonderful back cover (designed by Norma’s team) that I can’t wait to see in person.

Besides from this news, I have other international novelties that I will have to keep from you for a while, I’ll keep you posted! ;)

Back from Angoulême!

Bonjour Everyone! :D
I’m back from the Angoulême Comic Festival!

It’s been an amazing experience in all ways, I feel like lots of old fears are left behind, and lots of new and good things are coming!
I was terrified and more nervous than in my whole life, but in the end it all went very well, I met very nice people from France and also from Spain, and signed my first books ever! ^^

I departed from Barcelona on Wednesday 27 at noon, on a bed-train. I arrived at Limoges at 5 in the morning. There took a train to Angoulême that arrived at 9.
After going to the centre of the village and taking something to eat, I went to the Galleries Lafayette, to meet the staff of Emmanuel Proust editions.
After a bit of chaos and nerves, I finally managed to introduce myself and seat to sign for the first time. It was a great! I think I’ll always remember the faces of these few first people who came for the signings! Thanks a lot!

In the afternoon, a guy from the Tolouse television TLT made me an interview about Eros/Psyche. It was my first experience with this too, but I think it went well.
And finally we all had a very nice dinner in Angoulême before departing to the house where we were sleeping, 30 km from the city. It was a wonderful place, wish I had taken some pictures.

On Saturday I wasn’t as nervous as the previous day, and after a good night sleep I felt so much better! We were all day in Galleries Lafayette, and after the signings ended we went to see Tron Legacy! Was great, and luckily it was in english! This last night we had dinner on the sleeping house, and had so much fun with the other spanish guys that were in the editorial.

On Sunday 30, we spent the last morning signing on the bookstore Chapitre. In the afternoon I was free to visit the festival and the city, which is stunningly beautiful.
And finally at 8 in the afternoon I took a train to Poitiers, then another one to Limoges (where I met a very nice girl who shared her computer with me to see a movie!), and then the bed-train back to Barcelona!

It was all very intense. I thought I would be nervous about the signings, but in fact this was the easiest part of all! I felt great doing them and very thankful to all the people who bought the book!
I wish I had known a bit of French, because it was difficult to communicate sometimes. But I’m going to fix that as soon as possible! : D

Also, French food is really good, but quite heavy for a person who is so used to Mediterranean food like me. But Croissants are AMAZING. The things we have here are barely a shadow of what they really taste like in their original home!

Some of the very few pics I took. I forgot about my camera until the day I was returning home ^^U Too many things in my head! xD

I dropped “Art School Hidrangea” project in mid April for several reasons, though I had 85 pages already.
I don’t know if I will continue or transform it in the future, but I am already working on other new projects, and I’m very exited about them!

I won’t post pages or illustrations from my new works until I finish the projects, so there will be some more inactivity in my gallery for a while.
I’ll be back soon though, I promise! ^^

· EROS/PSYCHE

I promised I will write a little about the project I’m currently working, EROS/PSYCHE, so here I am :)
In fact is almost finished, I plan to have it ready approximately in a month.

EROS/PSYCHE is a single volume story that I think can be defined both as Graphic Novel or Manga. I do both the script and art.

The story tells us about Sara, her arrival and pass through a girls boarding school, and Silje, the Key student, only girl from last year’s course. From the very moment they meet, their relationship is the only thing that’s tangible, the only thing that the reader can cling to over the whole story, as all that surrounds them will look blurry, eclipsed by the feelings and emotions from the two main characters.

Excitement, joy, love, confusion, disillusion and hope are just some of the things that both girls live, in a background of virgin nature and isolation.

In the graphics I chose a little bit more sober style than on LINKED. I ruled out the tones to concentrate exclusively on pure black and white (I have to say I missed them in some moments, mainly to separate planes, but is very interesting to work without them). It is also more sober on the backgrounds and character designs, more minimalist because the story required it.

I hope to be able to give some info about publishing in the following months, by now that’s all! :)

Prometí que hablaría del proyecto en el que estoy trabajando ahora mismo, EROS/PSHYCHE, así que aquí estoy :)
En realidad está casi terminado, planeo tenerlo acabado en un mes aproximadamente.

EROS/PSYCHE es una historia auto conclusiva que en mi opinión se puede definir tanto como Novela Gráfica como Manga. Yo me encargo tanto del guión como del dibujo.

Trata sobre la historia de Sara, su llegada y su paso por un internado de chicas muy peculiar, y Silje, la alumna Clave, única chica que sigue allí del curso anterior. Desde el momento en que se conocen, su relación es lo único tangible, lo único a lo que el lector podrá aferrarse durante toda la historia, puesto que todo lo demás queda desdibujado, eclipsado por los sentimientos y las emociones de las dos protagonistas.

Emoción, alegría, amor, confusión, desengaño y esperanza son solo algunas de las cosas que viven las dos chicas, en un marco de naturaleza virgen y aislamiento.

Gráficamente elegí un estilo un tanto más sobrio que en LINKED. Eliminé las tramas ya que quería concentrarme exclusivamente en el blanco y negro puro (Tengo que decir que las he echado de menos en algunos momentos, sobretodo para separar planos, pero resulta muy interesante trabajar sin ellas). También en más sobrio en cuando a decorados y a los diseños de personajes, más minimalista puesto que la historia lo requería.

Espero poder dar más datos sobre publicación en los siguientes meses, de momento esto es todo! :)
